Using a Jetting Lance? Here's Something Worth Knowing

When you're working with high-pressure water jetting equipment, safety should always be a priority. But there's one area of protection that's easily overlooked, particularly when using a jetting lance.

Think about where your high-pressure hose sits when you're using your lance. In many cases, it's running directly underneath your arm or alongside your ribs, with water pressures of 3,000 PSI or more passing through it.

It's something you might not give much thought to during an everyday job, but if that hose were to fail, the consequences could be serious.

Fortunately, we supply a simple piece of safety equipment designed to help protect you.

What Is a Jetting Lance Safety Shroud?

Jetting Lance Sleeve

A safety shroud is a protective sleeve that fits over the high-pressure hose immediately behind your jetting lance, providing an additional layer of protection between the hose and the operator.

The Easy Protect Safety Shroud is designed to cover the first 750mm of your hose, where it is most likely to be positioned close to your body.

In the event of a hose failure, the shroud helps protect against the release of high-pressure water, reducing the risk of a potentially serious fluid injection injury.

Why Is a Safety Shroud Worth Having?

For drainage engineers, jetting equipment is used day in, day out, often in challenging working environments.

Hoses are regularly pulled around corners, fed through drainage systems and exposed to general wear and tear. This is particularly relevant if you use the same hose for both drain jetting and pressure washing, as sections of the hose may have been subjected to abrasion or damage that's not immediately obvious.

Regular inspection, maintenance and safe working practices are essential, but adding a safety shroud provides another important layer of protection.

There are several practical benefits:

  • Additional operator protection: Helps reduce exposure to high-pressure water in the event of a hose failure close to the body.

  • Quick and easy to fit: Simply loop the strap over the trigger assembly of your lance to secure the shroud in place.

  • Compatible with common hose sizes: Suitable for 3/8" and 1/2" high-pressure hoses.

  • Built for high-pressure applications: Rated up to 500 bar, making it suitable for a wide range of jetting setups operating within its specifications.

It’s a relatively simple addition to your existing equipment that could make a significant difference to your safety.

Making Safety Part of Your Everyday Setup

When it comes to water jetting, it's easy to focus on the machine, the pressure, the nozzles and getting the job done efficiently.

But looking after the person operating the equipment is just as important. A safety shroud doesn't replace regular hose inspections, correct operating procedures or appropriate PPE. Instead, it works alongside these precautions to help reduce the risks associated with using a high-pressure jetting lance.

Considering how close the hose is to your body during use, it just makes sense.
